Here is a very rare section of Pygopterus from the Lower Permian, Marl Slate of the Thrisslington Quarry south of Durham. Pygopterus was was the third largest predatory fish in the Zechstein Sea at around 50 cm long! The specimen shows the skull and pectoral fins with the very beginning of the body of the fish. Great detail preservation and exceptional detail under magnification. Has a glue repairs from a previous break but otherwise a great bargain example of a huge and rarely offered permian age fish!
