This is a nice section of matrix with a partial spine section of a Dimetrodon sail. There is also a couple of small fresh water shark teeth inbeded. This is from a bone bed that had many disarticulated animals in it. It was most likely a small pond that was the last spot for water during a very bad drought. Many species where found together and died in this location. Ounce the drought was over the pond filled back with water and all the dead skeletons were disarticulated over time. When the site was dug many years ago the bone layer was about 4 inches at the middle and then tapered down to a quarter inch on the outer edge. This is what gave us the ideal that this was a pond or posable stream bed, it was deeper in the middle. Age: Permian (280 million years old) Species: Dimetrodon Formation: Ryan Location: Near Waurika, Oklahoma
