Here is a rare and large example of a Scaphites sp. ammonite from the Cretaceous dinosaur age Fox Hills Formation of South Dakota. This large sized Scaphites has most of the shell intact with areas of iridescence that doesn't translate well in the photos but shows off better in person in light. These around 70 million year old ammonites lived when South Dakota was a shallow inland sea. They were found preserved in concretions when split open. They then had to be hand-prepared to remove the hard rock surrounding them from their shells, a very time-consuming task.
Look at photos closely for size and condition.
