Ryan of Nyislandfossils is passionate fossil enthusiast, hunter, and collector from New York. His passion for fossils started over a decade ago in college, introduced to fossils by accident while over a friends house. This lead to him finding his first shark tooth fossil in a local fresh water creek, thus igniting his love for paleontology. Since then officially becoming a hardened collector immersed in this field that is like no other. Through personally handling hundreds of thousands of different fossil specimens from all over the world and being mentored by very knowledgeable figures and friends in the paleontological community Ryan swiftly gained his knowledge. This while honing his skills being exposed to one of the most difficult and harshest paleontological deposits out there being in the state of New Jersey, where a majority of the sites produce seldom, understudied, and fragmentary fossil remains. Starting out as a private collector for many years he learned the market and bussiness of dealing with fossils first hand, both the positives and negatives. Thus over the years he has seen many fake and misidentified fossils, sifting through much of the nonsense out there that is even found shockingly found on the websites of some big and so called "reputable and trusted vendors". Ryan will always remain a collector first and to the heart, the purpose of this website is to offer extra specimens from his collection. These specimens for sale are personally vetted to his best ability, hand picked authentic fossils originally from his personal collection, with no fakes, no intentionally mistaken IDs for profit, and no intentional misinformation commonly found on the general market. Each fossil is handled by him personally and not by a team or big operation where things can get easily lost in translation and errors can be made. Though the selection of items is geared towards the average collector, some of the specimens sold have ended up in various museums and institutions worldwide.
